  • Scott Robert’s SF Bay Area Workshop

Last week I finally was able to attend one of my friend Scott’s photography workshops.  It is funny, since I have known Scott since we were up at Berkeley together and now he is this big shot awesome wedding photographer.  I remember that his work was good when he first started his photography career but as time has passed, his stuff has just become amazing.  It always surprises me how his images capture some sort of emotion and I find myself feeling something inside even though I usually don’t even know his clients.

Well I’ve tried to make it to a couple of his other workshops but something always came up.  Then there are all those great workshop locations all over the world but with a little baby girl, it seems unlikely for now that I would get to one of those.  So I had to resort to helping him organize one locally so I could make it.  So how was it?  Well first off I will share that Scott has always wanted to be a teacher since I first met him and I would have to say after being in the workshop that it is one of his callings. He is as good a teacher as he is a photographer.  So I would say if anyone has a desire to learn more, taking one of Scott’s workshops is an experience you will want to have.

On top of all this I got to meet and hang out with some other very cool photographers.  We were all at different places in terms of our abilities, but everyone had this passion to learn more and push ourselves to the “Next Level”.  Huge props to our models, Johanna, Chelsie, and Alexis.  Thanks for putting up with all our craziness and demands, all while looking fantastic and suffering through walking everywhere in heels and freezing in the cold weather.

Here are a few shots from the workshop.

  • When we met in college over 25 years ago, I wanted to be a teacher and a rockstar. I had this idea of teaching physics and going on tour with my band in the summertime. Funny how things change and don’t change over the years. We’ve been through a lot together and I’m glad we have grown to share a similar passion, photography. I know you well and if you keep pushing forward and conquer your obstacles (we all have them, financial, domestic, time constraints, lack of knowledge, etc) photography will not only be a great outlet but a viable source of income and satisfaction- you can do it. Stay focused and never let your road blocks keep you from doing what you want to do. You couldn’t make any other of my workshops so you create one that you could go to- that was creative thinking. Keep thinking this way about every problem and it will happen. Thanks Eric for helping me put this together, so many people had a great time and learned much!

  • Hi Eric,

Love the layout and color of your blog and post-processing of the images. I really admire you venturing into photography and now creating your own blog, it’s very inspirational! I hope to see more work here and at a future workshop. Take care.

  • Eric those are some awesome pictures! love the one of alexis running. dude… I can’t believe you guys made her run back and forth and back and forth in heels. ahaha.

  • @Henry - Hey Henry,

Thanks for the encouragement.  I really love photography and I think the safe thing to do would to just completely keep it as a hobby but I would like to see what else I can do with it.  Scott was a big inspiration and like I said in my e-mail I am weak of mind so his Jedi Mind Tricks are working well on me.  Aside from that though, I was totally inspired by all the rest of you in the workshop.  It is great to see all the talent, vision, and passion…it is infectious.  Hopefully we can keep in touch or run into each other at some other workshop or some place else.

  • It was great meeting you.  Good Luck with your future in Photography.

  • Hey Eric! Your blog looks neat and you have a great set of images. It was awesome meeting you in SF and witnessing your ‘crane style’! All the best with your photography I can’t wait to see what else you can do with it!

Hey Harvey…yes we did work Alexis pretty hard.  Plus she was having to run up and down a ramp.  She was a real trooper though. Besides art knows no boundaries and is only achieved with pain, right?  Too bad for Alexis it was her pain.  =P  Talk to you later.

  • @BandeleZuberi -

Thanks B, for the support.  I guess it is good that I am developing a recognizable style already but I hope that because of the Crane people don’t start associating me with Ralph Macchio…=O

  • Hey Eric, it was great meeting you in the workshop. From the little time we spent together I could tell you were a great guy and, now that I see your images, have a great photographic eye. Best wishes to you and your family.

  • @nathanhigashi -

Hey Nathan…it was great meeting you as well.  Hope that you had a good trip out here to the Mainland.  Let me know when you get some of your stuff together.  I would like to see what you got.  Well take care and stay in touch.

    -Eric
